Women can have fine bone structure, such as Princess Diana, or more elegant in a certain way. Grace Jones struck me as so ugly when I first saw her photos. She was on the cutting edge of models. Europe accepts beautiful, nonclassical European women more than the States. I was friendly with Andie MacDowell. B/c she was brunette and had some facial eccentricites she was sent to Paris. Soon she did Chanel and all the couture houses. Grace Jones had a similar journey. Couture designers lack elegance and beauty over more refined, less dramatic looks. Grace Jones had blue black skin rather than the tone associated with most African-Americans of Western African descent.

Grace Kelley is the other extreme. Hopefully, the times have changed so that all women are considered beautiful, rather than one racial ideal. Who defines the ideal? African women prob. find Grace Kelley and Princess Diana revolting. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Michael Jackson. Prince. Money will buy you a free pass with the society. Their actions are hardly criminal or insane such as the Borgias and Medicis who became Popes for generations. I could not dance b/c of the Witnesses. My cousin told me that dance was pagan and I was a Watusi, which was not a compliment. One rule for me, another for Michael and Prince.

I never liked Prince yet serious critics rave about him. Just a matter of taste.

i picked this forum section since it seems closest to what i'm gonna ask.

been a few months since i last posted but i always keep up with whats going on here since most of my family is j.w.

anyway, to get to the point.

I can't emphasize how very dangerous relying on casual advice from nonlawyer is. You are only doing it because you are ignorant of the complexity and the full repurcussions of your action. The very legal fields at issue here, family law, real estate, and trusts and estates are the hardest in law. The malpractice rates for trust and estates and property are the highest of any field. It is very hard. I would not trust a general lawyer. This is one area where expertise counts. I fulfilled my moral and ethical responsibility by posting this message.

Only a fool would proceed if they understood what they were doing. Why would people spend seven years of their lives in intensive, competitive and hard study and then pass an arduous bar exam if it were so easy. A lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client. Multiply that by a client who represents themselves off the internet.

I don't think jailhouse lawyers could master these areas. Beware.

Legal advice cannot be given. First, only lawyers may give legal advice. While a college student, I thought I knew it all. During the first few days of law school, I slinked in my chair as I realized the havoc I caused. No lawyer will give advice. Facts are crucial. They change. No case is the same. Facts of you are not aware or think not important may determine the outcome. Legal services are expensive b/c of this complexity. I casually gave advice in college. Now I grew up b.c my assets may be seized.

Get a list of local lawyers from your local bar association. This question contains property and family law elements. Try to see a specialist. Somewhere down the line a lawyer will give you an idea. An idea is not the answer. Interviewing clients carefully is crucial. Although people do it on the Internet, it is not appropriate.

Reading this thread, another thought came to mind. I expect a certain edginess and even cruelty from men. My father was a monster. I expect nice mothering and feminity from women. Queen Bees have been the bane of my existness. As much as I project my father on to men in general, the women trigger me more. Perhaps being raised a JW, I don't fully approciate their headship. Women who hate women were constant in my life.

Almost all my big battles were with female supervisors. Maybe b/c I worked in female ghettos. When I upgraded to mostly male fields, such as law in the 1980s, it seemed more sane. Some petty female lowly boss treats me worse than men who counsel entire international industries. I've heard that female culture does not translate well to the workplace. It is complex b/c men set it up for their own ends. Sports are extremely important to learn how to interact. Cattines among women is legendary. I despise women fighting women over silly things.

My feminism cries out to stop immediately, esp. in front of men. I had a very painful relationship in law school. B/c I did very well through discipline, sheer determination and even harder work, she was jealous. Rather than acknowledging that we were different people, she tried to drag me down into her mire. We were very close. I started to receive anonymous telephone calls from other students telling me I should know she was besmirching my character while posing as my friend. When the sixth or seventh call came, I exploded. I need to get out before she pulled me under. We lived as roommates, an accomodation I made for her. I scored very high and could have had my choice of single rooms. I told her I was furious and did not want to even talk with her. She took her tales of woe about me to every student, faculty, and service worker in the school. I maintained my silence saying I wanted dignity. When I refused to discuss it with a male friend, he summed it up, "Women."

Maybe cattiness occurs in women b/c we are closer than men generally are. B/c of feminism, I receive incredible support from other women. In contrast to my past, I relish knitting, crochet, quilting, makeup, fashion. Our culture is male dominated. There is no image of catty men.

Muslim President and Jehovah's Witnesses...

well i guess i don't keep up on the jw news like i should...... in talking with my friend that has been disfellowshipped about the religion and it's falsehoods (lies)..she stated that the jw's are saying that the witnesses claimed beforehand that we would have a black muslim as president (they claim obama is) and it would be a sign of the nearing of armageddon..so when obama got to be predisent they see this as a fulfillment of this prophecy of theirs..so they must be the right religion.... help!

how would you answer this?.

President Obama is Christian. He doesn't claim to be. We don't around saying that white face Bush claimed to be Christian(not in the same sense). This must be Witness urban legend. The WT would not state he is Moslem. President Obama has never been a Moslem. He was born in the United States in the state of Hawaii. His birth documents have been validated by Republican officials.

With six degrees of separation, I am certain that George Washington, John Adams, Thomas jefferson, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln have Moslem relatives. Being related to Moslems does not make these U.S. Presidents either Moslem or foreign born.

The racism is so blatant. Only Witnesses tend to be ignorant. Maybe it is massive ignorance. I am utterly furious with people who know better but play demoguage. Obama was elected fairly and squarely. This day was inevitable. I respected the office of President even under the tenure of George Bush. Republic extremists need to respect the office, too. You have your chance at the next election.

I was seriously ill with agonizing pain for decades. It went on for so long, both my mother and I were willing to stretch our boundaries. A very proper Anglican friend of mine heard of a faith healer who wasn't tacky. Normally, I would certify her as crazy for even suggesting such a flake. The three of us went traipsing off to her concert in NY. A large group of normal looking people were there. She asked for terminal cancer patients to come forward. Twenty-five young people approached the stage. It was staggering. Maybe they were from Sloan-Kettering. She said we had to be slain in the holy spirit. Sixty people came forward. She stretched out her arm and ordered them to be slain. I went up with my mom and friend.

I am very reserved and proper. This was trailer trash stuff. I begged myself to relax and not fight. One never knows. We did not fall back in a faint that indicated slaying. Part of me wanted to laugh. All three of us. She pushed her arm out further and raised her voice. The Holy Spirit did not want one of us. I still can't believe I went.

The cats are hilarious. Puppies are too cute to mock faith healing.

Do you remember when Oral Roberts threatened to return to heaven if he didn't raise all his funds? People laughed and laughed. He never recovered.

I object to abusive women and the reptition of abuse and women. While it is true that society judges male abuse worse than female abuse, I strongly think this is due to the fact that men are physically stronger. In NY, women won the right to be firefighters equal with men. Objective tests were used to test anyone's capacity to the job. This was the rub. Years went by before any woman qualified. Police women could pass objective police requirements. The traits shown apply to men and women equally. Women are not bitches.

In the sixties, people would argue we needed women in high office b/c women want peace and are inherently more democratic. Indira Gandhi emerged, followed by Margaret Thatcher. They proved women can be dictators and wagers of war equally with men. The individual is the key. Most rapes are not male-female rapes. The vast majorit of rapes occur in prison and are male-male. I am ever mindful of where I wll end up if I need to defend myself against a man, particularly with upper body strength. While unpleasant, most men can fight off homosexual advances.

It is good to be reminded that women are just as capable of bad behavior. We are an equal opportunity species.

Do not let work get in the way of pioneering

the april 15th wt is strange and it just throws things in here and there that are kind of out of sort.

i think it sticks in your mind more like hey i probably should pioneer when they throw things in that are kind of in left feild.. like this example on pages 16 and 17 it is talking about making decisions and in paragraph 15 it says "for example a congregation publisher might decide to pioneer.

I believe in hard work. My mom was criticized for working. She did not work so we could go on vacation. We never saw the Jersey shore living in NJ. She worked to put food on the table and a roof over our head. My perception may be flawed b/c we attended an inner-city KH. Many members said they were too disabled to work. I'm not talking parapalegics or senior citizens. Able, young people pioneered and screwed the social safety network for all Americans. If you can put so many hours in field service, you can work.

I preferred working to field service. Allowing these lazy bums to pioneer through disability benefits is government subsidization of religion in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. Field service was sheer hell. I was surrounded by welfare recipients while my precious mother workekd nights since we could not afford a baby sitter. My dad worked days. He came home and rested. My mom worked all day at home then worked a full shift at night in a factory. My JW father would not pick her up with the car she purchased through her earnings. Rather, she was forced to wait for a bus around 1 am in a very dangerous neighborhood in a major urban city.

I know from personal experience about men slowing down when you are alone to make you nervous about rape. She faced that. They went door to door and were praised.

The article is chilling because quantity is more important than a virtuous life. Numbers, numbers, numbers. I don't understand how they make money but as Deep Throat said, "Follow the Money." Cult. Cult. Cult. Cult. Cult. Cult.

I saw a tellling chart in Wikipedia concerning Christian belief. With the exception of the Witnesses and a few other groups, all those calling themselves Christian share a few core beliefs on 90% of doctrine. Perhaps the Witnesses are not truly Christian. The Trinity seems central to me. I was taught during college and again, in Anglican church, that people encounter different aspects of God. Sometimes He is fatherly, sometimes a guru. Sometimes harsh, sometimes compassionate. The Trinity in concept is a way to acknowledge all these different aspects and yet acknowledge the unity of God. I don't think the Bible has a recipe. It is sad to read posters putting each other down.

The Bible is not definitive. Trinity is neither contained in the Bible nor is it denied. The answer is complex. Sometimes it is necessary to embrace complexity. Running from complexity doesn't solve issues. I see the issue as both ways. I also feel strongly that if the existence of a Trinity or nonTrinity were so essential to belief and faith in action, the scriptures writers would have clearly documented the result. God is defined in Judaism as that which is not human. God is not good. God is like good. As John Lennon wrote, "God is a concept by which we measure our pain."

Lining up scriptural proofs, while interesting, does not solve the dilemna. I should look up the quotation but either Jesus or Shakespeare (maybe both) said that the devil can quote scripture for his own purpose. Not that anyone here is the devil. The answer does not have to be A or B. Rather, it is A and B or a combination. I am also unsure what difference it makes in my daily life. It presents an interesting intellectual challenge. I embrace my not knowing. Isn't there a mystic book by St. John of the Cross called The Cloud of Not Knowing.

Besides, it is obvious that God must be She.

Never in the United States. The colonies were established, in large part, by religious dissidents eager to leave the oppression of the Church of England. They did not come here to practice individual religion but to start their own established religion. Freedom of religion as in the First Amendment's Free Exercise Clause was a long way in the future. I imagine the Free Exercise Clause became necessary in large measure b/c other religions did not want a federal religion b/c they would not be chosen. Jews and Catholics were considered outside civilization. Records reveal no one thought they should vote or hold public office under any circumstances. The Const'n did not contain the Bill of Rights. Many patriots saw it as limiting liberty and inviting the tyranny of a central government removed from local influence. James Madison, one of the leaders of the federalist with Alexander Hamilton (The Federalist Papers) drafted the Bill of Rights in a last ditch effort to have the document ratified by the states. The people demanded such a Bill. Madison thought it a superflous, waste of time. The people won.

This is the DNA of American history. I know European law is different. European Law, the Napoleon Code and civil code, have different bases. Our revolution was more of a gentlemany dispute between ogligarchies than the very brutal French Revolution. Antireligious sentiment was one of the hallmarks of the French Revolution. Priests were mocked and tortured. Churches destroyed. There is a clear, bright line in most European countries that truly separates church from state. Bush's prayers to God after 9/11 would not be tolerated by these cultures. France has a controversy about Muslim girls not wearing headscarves. Social cohesion is treasured in Europe. America goes in the other direction.

Individuals have the Free Exercise Clause. American courts will not direct internal religious affairs. It is completely condemned. Also, it strikes me that it is driven beyond any text in our Cost'n. It is a value that defines America. No one is forced by the govt to join or leave any religion. I know this is cold comfort when someone is facing lose all familial and friends contacts. Courts could not administer these disputes even if there were no taboos against it. Again, I truly want to know the European experience to contrast it with America. Americans are very myopic. When I grew up, one would think that the United States was the only free country and Europe was still dominated by the culture of the 1500s.

If any Europeans see this, could you give me ideas where to look for a brief discussion or actual documents marking the Civil Code experience.Thank you.
